3 Things We're Actually Doing With Our Kids in Las Vegas This Fall
Fall in Vegas is wild! There is so much to do, you couldn’t possibly do it all, if you tried.
These are the three things on our actual calendar this year.
1. Gilcrease Orchard's Fall Harvest
Dates: September 26 through October 31, open Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: 7800 N Tenaya Way, 89131
This is the pumpkin patch, and it's the one with actual dirt under your kids' fingernails by the end of it. You wander the field and pick your own pumpkin (there are roughly 15 different varieties out there, and the orchard's director says most people only pick from the front of the field, so head to the back for better selection). Hop onto the wagon ride, try the corn maze and hay maze and one of the best parts in our opinion…the show!! The live Spellbound Spectacular is a mini-stage performance featuring characters inspired by Hocus Pocus (the Sanderson Sisters) presented by The Party Princess Place
The orchard also sells fresh-pressed apple cider and apple cider donuts, which we treat ourselves to after the Spellbound Spectacular.
FYI: Tickets are required and go fast for weekend slots, so buy online in advance rather than showing up and hoping.
2. Parade of Mischief at Downtown Summerlin
Dates: Every Friday and Saturday, October 2 through October 24, 6 p.m., along Park Centre Drive (1980 Festival Plaza Drive). No performances on October 30 or 31.
This one's for the littles who want costumes and candy energy without anything actually scary. It's a free, family-friendly parade with more than 60 local youth performers doing themed floats and dance numbers inspired by Hocus Pocus, Harry Potter, Wicked, The Addams Family, Cruella, and Día de los Muertos. There is some serious dance talent out there - we were blown away by the F1 float performance last year!
Tip: Get there 20-30 minutes early and post up along Park Centre Drive before the crowd fills in. It's outdoors and free, so strollers are fine, but it does get shoulder to shoulder right along the curb once it starts.
3. Haunted Harvest at Springs Preserve
Dates: October 22 through 25, 6 to 8:30 p.m., with early entry at 4 p.m. for Springs Preserve members
Where: Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd
This is the least scary, most toddler-appropriate Halloween event in the valley, which is exactly why we are going. There are trick-or-treat stations, crafts, and food trucks set up through the "Boo-tanical" Garden, so it feels more like a garden party in costumes than a haunted house. Tickets go on sale to the public September 17, and this one has sold out in past years, so don't wait until October to grab them.
Three events, three very different kid energy-levels, and none of them require you to explain to a four-year-old why the guy in the corner is covered in fake blood.
